







After six days at sea, finally we arrived Funchal (Madeira) and received a welcome dance from local people.
Madeira Island is famous throughout the world for its natural beauty and is often called the 'floating garden in the Atlantic'.
Madeira is a Portuguese archipelago in the mid Atlantic Ocean, is part of Portugal, so is part of the European Union. It is a popular year-round resort, noted for its Madeira wine, flowers, and embroidery artisans, as well as its New Year's Eve celebrations that feature a spectacular fireworks show, which is the largest in the world according to the Guinness world Records.
Its harbour - Funchal - is important due to its commercial and passenger traffic and for being a major stopover for cruisers en route from Europe to the Caribbean.
Funchal is a cosmopolitan and very panoramic city with several parks. There are many hotels, including deluxe properties. Funchal has been Madeira's capital for more than five centuries.
The city can easily be explored by foot (as long as it is in the Funchal tourist area) and you will find no difficulty in walking into the city central to delight at its sights and sounds.
Places of Interest - Botanical Gardens, Cabo Girao, Camacha, Embroidery Factory, Madeira Wine Lodges, Monte Sled Ride, Our Lady of Monte Church .....
Climate - Madeira lies on the Gulf Stream, making its climate a pleasantly subtropical. Both the water and air temperature averages between 60 to 73 degrees F year-round. The rainiest months are late September through October and March and April.
